Mrs Ruth McMeekin – MFL Subject Lead (French)
Hello!
My name is Ruth McMeekin, and I am proud to lead Modern Foreign Languages at Eastburn School. Languages open doors to new cultures, experiences, and opportunities, allowing us to connect with people beyond our own communities. As a multilingual speaker, I am passionate about inspiring children to develop a love of languages and to appreciate the cultural richness within our school and beyond.
Over the years, I have worked on and led international projects with our Erasmus partners across Europe. These experiences have shown me the incredible power of language in fostering collaboration, curiosity, and global understanding. Through our MFL curriculum at Eastburn, we aim to make language learning enjoyable, purposeful, and accessible for all children. We focus on building strong foundations in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while encouraging children to celebrate diversity and see the world from new perspectives.
Alongside language learning, I believe it is vital to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain. PSHE plays a crucial role in developing resilient, confident young people who can navigate an ever-changing world. A strong PSHE education empowers children with the knowledge and skills to manage their lives, stay safe, make responsible decisions, and thrive as individuals and members of society.
By leading MFL and sharing my passion for PSHE, I aim to ensure that our pupils not only develop an appreciation for different cultures and languages but also gain the confidence and resilience to succeed in an interconnected world. By the time they leave Eastburn, I hope they will carry with them a curiosity for other cultures, a confidence to communicate, and the values to flourish both locally and globally.
