Eastburn Junior And Infant School

School Council

On this page you will find details of the work of our School Council.  This group of children are an important team in school and take their role very seriously.  They are an elected group of pupils who represent themselves and other pupils by working alongside teachers and the Leadership Team to make positive changes to school.

Our council is led by Mrs Hughes (Inclusion Leader).

Celebrating Diversity

In 2018/19 our School Councillors have led work on promoting diversity within school. Each member of our School Council has been trained by Barnardo's to become a BEAMs Ambassador, promoting equality and diversity within school. The School Council are currently working on our Anti-bullying Policy and have led a whole-school assembly on what bullying is and how to 'Stand up, Speak out and Tell Someone'. This links in with our work with the NPSCC.

New Community Library

In 2017/18 our School Councillors were closely involved in researching and designing our new Library.  The Councillors visited two local schools to see their library and gather some ideas. Their suggestions have been used to develop a brand new Library here at Eastburn which we hope to be able to open to the community before and after school. We hope that the new Library will give our children a space where they can become absorbed in a good book. We have chosen high quality fiction and non-fiction so our children can enjoy the very best authors and support their knowledge and understanding of the world through books.
