Intent
At Eastburn our curriculum is underpinned by the following principles:
-Children will be taught how to learn through ‘Building Learning Power’ so that they can become effective life-long learners.
-Priority is placed on embedding the fundamental skills of Reading, Writing and Maths so that children can make the most of opportunities in school and beyond.
-Learning builds progressively within and between lessons to enable children to weave their knowledge, understanding and skills together.
-In the wider curriculum, subject-specific skills are taught rigorously and progressively throughout school. Children have opportunity to make links between areas of learning and to develop their talents and interests.
-A strong emphasis is placed on equipping children with the social, emotional and behavioural skills necessary to become resilient individuals and positive members of society.
-We ensure that children read and experience a rich range of literature in order to stimulate imagination, develop empathy and promote a love of reading.
-We plan opportunities for children to build their knowledge of the wider world and develop an appreciation of other cultures, in order to raise aspirations and broaden their horizons.
